My girlfriend bought me a 4" Mini Munny customizable doll (the Foomi model) for my birthday, last week. I always wanted to try my hands at customizing one of these by shaping them after my characters, and I've been in a kind of artisanal mood these days so it couldn't have been more convenient! Here's Superpouf, from my Supercrash comic.
I tried to keep it simple: at first I wanted to colour it with Copic markers but the ink didn't stick properly to the vynil surface, so I switched to acrylics (the black outlines were done with Sharpie markers). I didn't cut or sculpt anything, though I did craft a small cape using a white rag, which I cut and then dyed in a mix of acrylic and india inks. I then applied some spray varnish on the final product.
I did a few mistakes, mostly in the colours: Superpouf's skin is too pink, and his hair is too gray. Also, I worked too fast on the colours, which resulted in some of them staining each other. It's especially visible in the white surface on the left eye.
In overall, I'm proud of it! I love how it looks, and how some of the finer details come out (like the freckles, the watch and the hair). The next one might involve some Sculpey to do even more customizing (especially if I want to replicate Supercrash's hair, which will require Sculpey).
So yeah. 4" Foomi doll, acrylic paint and inks, Sharpie markers, about 8 hours.
Do NOT make a supercrash one. Why? Because if you do my head will explode & I will not be here to witness anymore of your awesome art. Just kidding do what ever you want.
Wow! Great job! This looks so cool! I really like how the freckles turned out, even made the skin a bit orange around it. Overall the details are really nice!
