The more things change, the more they stay the same.

So today, while sorting my papers, I found the sketchbook in which I drawn the very first comic featuring Supercrash, which dates back to almost exactly 8 years ago (can't spot the precise date, I know it was done sometime in first-half of February 1999). And it's just fascinating to see how much progress I've made with my drawing style since I've created him. That also makes me thing about how rare it is to keep a character, that you created during your teenage years, going for that long.

A few things that have changed about him though : he's not anymore the "superhero that is bound to save the entire world" (aaaah, cheesiness of the teenage years), he's not named after me anymore (he gained the name "Olivier" about four years ago) and his cape has been yellow only for his first two years of existence. The stories are less adventurious and more humourous (though I still want him to have adventures) and the characters a bit sillier than they used to be. He also underwent a design change about a year and a half ago, but I brought back his old design after coming to the conclusion the old design was more fitting with him.

And yeah, his trademark... uh... "hairstyle" is more imposing than ever. I still laugh at the fact a friend of mine once said he looked like he had BOOBS on his head. He's gonna be subject to many jokes revolving around this in the future, gnah ha ha!

Doing this drawing was quite fun, since I haven't drawn the old-style Supercrash since I, well... evolved my style of drawing, I guess. It was still entertaining going back to the roots – and using the gradient tool again to color the old version of Supercrash appeared to be just plain wrong now. Hahaha.

That's it. Congratulations if you've actually read the whole thing. Younger, I never had the feeling anybody would be really interested by this character. Looks like my arrival at DeviantART proved this thought to be wrong, since there are a few people that like him. All I can say to that is... THANKS!

Well, that's it, Enjoy!

Supercrash (old and new design) are copyright (C) =TheBourgyman. That's me.

I love seeing an artist's work evolve. That's why I love reading Penny Arcade from "cover to cover" as it were. ♥

Heheh, I've only been drawing for about half a year, but I've still improved a ton since my first drawing. I keep my first sketchbook in a very safe place where I won't lose it. This way, if I think I draw like crap, I can look at that sketchbook and i feel better :)

But anyway, nice comparison! (also, gradients = PHAIL :stab: )

Neat,It's nice to see what has change over the years. This got me thinking on my main character and well He as deffentaly change over the time, even through I made him roughly a year ago. He went from a smart, strong, cool ninja-like guy to a Dim, Sorta strong, cocky, clusmy guy.

Got cut this chat short, bye for now.

Haha I see, but y'know, the first years are also the most drastic for characters sometimes, as this is the period when they change most, where they get their personality and get closer to their "final shape".

Even though my character wasn't used in the professional work yet I'm kinda positive he reached his "final shape". :D
