Because, admit it, "25 Years of Dying" is a lot catchier than just "Cause of Death" as a title.
Mario celebrated his 25th year among us sometime in late 2010 (more like "25 years of Independence" since he existed since the Donkey Kong arcade game, making him 29 by 2010). I wanted to do something big for the occasion, even though I technically missed the boat by a few months (not practicallysince Mario didn't turn 26 just yet).
So this poster-like illustration is my official tribute to him for the occasion. I didn't cover everything of course, but the most important is there. Just watch out, there's a BIT of blood here and there (hard to spot though since I painted it black). There's some seriously violent deaths in these games, when you think of it...
Sorry for the ugly watermark by the way. I've had people steal some of my artwork before, you would figure this one would be a perfect pick for unscrupulous people wanting to gain easy money in video game shops and Anime conventions. Ugh.

The suggester said: "A hilarious and yet tragic idea to commemorate the 25th birthday of our most beloved plumber hero. I just couldn't stop laughing at each square. The style of the artist is lovely, not only on this piece but his entire gallery. It's full of humor and a feast for everyone who loves games."
Remember when dying in video games always made you go into a rage and throw a fit? That would be me, and this reminded me of those times! Totally hilarious and a wonderful talent! I think Mario has a world record on the amount of Purple Heart awards received! ( Suggested by mukuro-sama and Featured by TommyGK )

If only Nintendo had known everybody would be jerks because Nintendo wouldn't make a TTYD sequel. I don't care either way.
I would say that the top 10 painful ways Mario would die is:
10) Blown up
9) Getting eaten by a Piranha plant
8) Dark matter
7) Overconfidence
6) Sunburnt
5) Thwomped
4) Shelled
3) Ice burnt
2) Electrified
1) Pushed out of stage

This is excellent work, although I have to say, I recognized some of your work by its art style here on deviantart because I had seen this exact piece on a random Google image search a few months back, before I had even joined here. Only thing was, it was had been translated into Italian, and im pretty sure it did not credit the original artist, whom I now know was you. Its a shame when other people take your work and post it without credit, but your work is always great, so keep it up!
So the only deaths I'm seeing people ask "where's this one from?" are in Super Mario 64. I saw one ask about the kidnapped one, but that one kinda made sense since some people don't consider the Yoshi's Island games Mario games.
I'm saddened. While SM64 isn't the best game ever, it really is the game that paved the way for all third-person 3D games that followed, regardless of genre.

I think it's more of a failsafe the programmers put in to prevent people from getting out of gravity ranges.
I like the first picture of Mario's death animation at the very very top. xD I can imagine him looking like that whenever he tumbles off the screen.
This is one of the best ones that you've done, man; I especially like the "Blown Up" reason and the "Cornered" reason.
Super Mario 64. In one of the cave levels, there's a section where there's some gas at the floor level, and if you stay in it for too long, Mario will lose health. He even coughs once in a while in the idle animation when in the gas.
I'm averse to anyone printing my artwork and selling it in shops, conventions or other, without my permission.

What strikes me as most attractive about this piece is how creative each way of Mario dying is drawn. I also enjoy how you touch upon ways of getting killed in both present and past Mario games, such as in the "Barrel Roll", "Bullied", and "Pushed out of stage" squares.
The variations of Mario's expressions are always a laugh, and your cartoony style boasts them quite well in each box.
All in all, this is a delightful and humourus picture to celebrate both the 25th birthday of our beloved red plumber and have a laugh at all his unfortunate deaths we had to witness in the games throughout the years. I really cannot give this a score less than perfect! Wonderful, wonderful job, Bourgyman!
